You’ve got me feenin’…FOR SOME ANSWERS!!!!

People of the ‘Net…a question has arisen.

It is a question of the utmost importance and I need answers. I need answers STAT. Or ASAP. Or perhaps ASAP and STAT actually do mean the same thing so I need the answer 40 ways from Sunday. Which according to some porn stars, is how they like to get smurfed.

The question is this:

Without me giving you a list of songs to choose from, what is Jodeci’s best song?

A friend of mine and I were debating this question yesterday as she has her pick and I have mine. We attempted to dismantle eachother’s decision and it ended up with me changing my choice, then her changing her choice, then us being unable to actually declare a best Jodeci song. Their catalog is sick. The only definitive thing I determined was that I could not date a woman who didn’t accept the fact that Diary Of A Mad Band was their best album.

Any woman who says otherwise need not speak to me ever.

So I implore you, help us, the Black community, and any white people who actually listen to Jodeci, determine the best Jodeci song by placing your choice in the comments.

We need results people!!!! Plus, I SO want to be able to tell my friend that I was right and she was wrong. There’s nothing on the line, but I’ll take glory points.

Allons-y.

For the record, I am actually tallying from both her MySpace and text messages I’ve sent out and I will be posting the results.

And make sure that if you mean a remix, you put remix. I.e. Come and Talk To Me (Remix) or Freek-N-U (Remix).

    Come and Talk to Me

For sentimental reasons. It was the first “secular” tape I owned and I got my ass whooped by my mom for having it. But I love that song!

Ok… I’ve been reading your site for well over a year. And this is the question that is bringing me out of the shadows!

Diary Of A Mad Band is clearly Jodeci’s best album.

My favorite jodeci song of ALL time is the first track on that album…..

    “My Heart Belongs To U”

I just saw this post after I posted a response to your previous one. My answer (though I’m not a HUGE Jodeci fan, I have to admit) is (Drumroll)…

    “My Heart Belongs to You”

    T

If you include cover songs then my fav is their remake of stevie’s Lately. But excluding that its Come and talk to me.

I’m the whitey of the group. I gotta go with “Lately”.

HUGE Jodeci fan. My favorite track is “Freek ‘n You.” Quintessential Jodeci sweet-but-nasty R&B.

My vote for best song, however, is “Forever My Lady.” Between the original and the acapella, this put them on the map.

Strange thing about Jodeci- they always put the best songs within the 1st 5 tracks on the album. After that, they were just, eh…

P.S. STAT is more urgent than ASAP. At my hospital, STAT means within 15min while ASAP means within an hour.

Ooooh…you make me sick. Here I was living my life oblivious of good times and then you go bring up some Jodeci. The best Album by far had to have been Diary of a Mad Band. I’m torn Feenin was my joint. In fact, when I think of Jodeci, that’s like the definitive track. It’s like the flagship jam. But my favorite song was I’m Still Waiting.

Isn’t it obvious? “Cry for You”. “Feenin’” is a close second. I’m glad someone is bringing up crucial topics such as this…

Yall are all wrong. The answer is You Give Good Love – the last song on The Show, The Afterparty, The Hotel. The acoustic guitar and the harmony are ridiculous. Freakin’ You remix is a close second if for no other reason than Ghost’s verse.

  12. on 30 Nov 2006 at 7:13 pm Q

I still stick by my answer… but i had to come back and give Rashad a dap for “You give good luv”
that was a serious track! I cannot deny the harmony on that bridge!!! Nice Choice!

    The short of it:
    “Forever My Lady”

    The long of it:
I think it’s important to note the difference between the “best” song and my “favorite” song. Because my favorite is without a doubt “Time and Place” from the third album. But I will concede it isn’t the best.

The best?? I think it’s “Forever My Lady.” This was the song and video that changed both male and female R&B groups. Aside from the production of Devante that led to the change of radio (Timbaland anyone?), the dress/persona of skinny, wanna-be-thug azz singers that influenced damn near every male act in the 90′s, and the voice of K-Ci that was a generation’s first glimpse at what fans of Bobby Womack already knew…. it’s the lyrics that make it the best (with obvious contributions from the more mature Al B. Sure evident in the subject matter)…

A Black man happy his girl is having his baby! Nothing more precious than to raise a family! Dreaming of a healthy, strong child! A woman that brings meaning to his life!

It reads like a love song… not just to a woman, but to the Black family. Definitely the best…

You would think with all this I just wrote, I feel passionately about it… but I don’t. I’m just bored at work.

ooh, good question. freek n you remix

    Don’t talk… just listen.

I’m a “Stay” fan – but maybe it’s because I was at that one dance and the Object of My Affection FINALLY came over and asked me to dance to that very song.

    Ah… I was so much younger then…

Probably the most difficult question in a long time, but I’ll go with

    “My Heart Belongs to You”

  17. on 01 Dec 2006 at 8:43 am rock

    Hmm good topic….

My heart belongs to you is their best work. Hell the whole second album classic.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. Everybody. Although my personal favoites include “Feenin’” “Lately” and the “Freak’n You” remix, Jodeci’s best song of all time is “Come and Talk to Me.”

Hands down. Kudos to the homie wood.

  19. on 01 Dec 2006 at 9:26 am Suga&Spice

OK I forgot just how much I loved Jodeci’s music. Let me go find these songs on the net and get back to you.

  20. on 01 Dec 2006 at 10:22 am Brick

I always get down to “Stay” vs. “Forver My Lady”. The words of “Forever My Lady” get me everytime. But nothing beats the pure emotion of “Stay”. Except maybe “Cry For You”.

  21. on 01 Dec 2006 at 10:27 am Brick again

How could I forget “You Give Good Love”? Oh my goodness….

And “I’m Still Waiting” was my favorite for a long, long time!!

Can you tell that Jodeci was my favorite group in the 90′s? LOL

  22. on 01 Dec 2006 at 11:54 am Panama

@Brick: I wonder for who Jodeci WASN’T their favorite group in the ’90s. I might decide to not like them.

  23. on 01 Dec 2006 at 7:13 pm Milah

My Heart Belongs to You. No question about it!

  24. on 23 Aug 2007 at 10:32 am K.

It’s difficult to call the best Jodeci track as they’re all set for different moods. you got your “my heart belongs to you” and “love you for life” to make you think of your better half. you’ve got your party Jodeci with “let’s go through the motions” and your “get on up” etc. and then you’ve got Jodeci that can’t be imitated for shit; “freek’n you”, “pump it back” and “cry for you”. i could quote every Jodeci title in this post but my all time’s got to be FREEK’N YOU as no song has ever sounded so melodic, funky, sexual and down right to the point. the bass, the guitar (got to give it up to Darryl Pearson) and the vocal arrangement “DeVante Swing/Whoa oh oh Whoa oh Whoa oh Oh Whoa oh oh yeah…” Non-album wise i love “give it up”. dalvin never got enough props – how can you when you’re in the shadow of a genius like DeVante. Jodeci had it going on musically. I just remembered the “i’m still waiting (Daddy’s Jeep Remix)”. Imma stop there because imma end up mentioning every damn Jodeci joint. K.

“stay” is the best. devante and kc also contributed to mary j blige’s classic “i dont wanna do anything” which is my 2nd fav devante swing production behind “stay”. the musical layers on the song is simply brilliant.
