"Some bass-chord progessions..."

hmmm...tryin' to expand that musical lexicon. very ungood!

can't believe you gave this a 4/5! within his own catalogue, which album is this better than? does this album even stack up to In My Life Time, Vol. 1 or Vol. 3: Life and Times of S. Carter?

i don't think so. this album doesn't even make it into the top 5 of his own catalogue so it sure as hell doesn't merit a 4/5!

3 years for this? as much as i can't get with Jim Jones, he may have a point...Kingdom Done.

Good review and shit. Your feelings about it pretty much echoed my own. Listening to this album was like getting a hand job on public...great in theory but the end result is too messy to warrant the effort. You know its a strange album when you feel like one of your favorite songs on it "do you wanna ride" would have been better WITHOUT the jay-z verses

"Anything" is some of the worst shit I have heard in years.

I think I kind of zoned out after that track, cuz you know I'm a Jay Stan, and I haven't made another lap around the album yet. Yes, "Anything" is THAT bad folks. Shit, play me ANYTHING but that mess.

The Coldplay track brought me back, but then it was over.

Call it homework this weekend...

I too eavesdropped on this album on my street corner in its entirety and say I have to agree with you overall.

I think I like the Just Blaze tracks way more than the Dre tracks. but all them tracks are pretty much the ones I like. I skip all the others, I just can't take Hollywood or Anything, and I'm mad they put them two dead in the middle of the album becauise then I don't wanna even go to the second half. I'll go for Trouble though.

The album, while it is important, it's nothing new or revolutionary to hip hop. Not sayin it needs to be, but just stating the obvious.

Though I been hatin on Bey and Jay on their album releases lately (mostly Bey) I think I might love a joint album with them together. I liked the Kells collabo, I think I can like a Bey collabo AS LONG AS they keep that heffa in the studio longer than two weeks to make the damn thing.

damn good review, homeboi. you hit it right on...this ain't friend or foe jay...this ain't you don't know jay either...it's the cool ass older brother jay (with his CONSTANT reminders that he's older and cooler), kinda disconnected, but okay with that. I think there's definitely something to be said about a dude so resolute in who he is as a person and an emcee that he puts out an album that syncs only with the tunes in his own head, not what it's SUPPOSED to be...
