Blacks need a leader, a voice.

In the meantime, the most popular are the rappers.

That's who white people hear from, and that's who they base their opinions on.

On a personal level, I think this discussion is bitter and unhealthy.

"I hate when white people act like slavery was so long ago."

Is it fair for me to generalize and say how I hate when black people act like slavery was yesterday? Almost like they wish it was, so they could continue victimizing themselves and nurturing a sense of entitlement?

My friends, when slavery was abolished nobody received an update on their Treo, hopped in their Prius, and drove to their nearest Wi-Fi point to further investigate. Since 1865 we've flown, had world wars, cured disease, witnessed revolutions; we've seen innumerable progressions, and if you haven't, go to Wikipedia.

It bothers me that slavery is a common alibi and scapegoat for blacks. I think Panama was getting at that too, considering it's equally silly for whites to use rap as the root of their problems.

All of these discussions are so circular. Think of the solution instead of possible problems.

Peace, the funky jew.

it was funny watching that interview with pat. b the other day, mainly because it seemed as if he was reading from a teleprompter. he also seemed to be sweating. the "rap culture" comment also amused me a bit. its become so much of a scapegoat that it's a cliche now...a trademark phase even, like "goodnight and good luck" and "go fuck yourself, san diego". i wouldnt put too much stock in anything he has to say.

"On rap or any music really, I think it's a shame so many don't understand how powerful a medium it is."

True, it is a powerful medium. But to blame it for the ills of American society is just nonsense. I mean, in other countries they have drug problems, high crime, and a whole slew of problems and yet they don't have hip hop to blame. In fact, those other countries do the same thing American whites do, blame minorities for their problems.

I agree with everyone. I think illegals are a problem in America, but the gov. probably won't do anything about them unless they start looking like us. When Haitians try to sneak over here they turn them around so fast it aint funny. So I think we should send them some skin bleach, a box of relaxer, and some good weave so that when they try and sneak over here they can pass for hispanic and stay. Oh and about the rap music and violence... I think when you go to a concert and the artist can bite the head off of a bat or can talk about worshipping satan, to me that promotes violence far worse than someone rapping about a drive-by.

I like the analogy that Bulletproof Diva said. I like to look at slaverly like this. Imagine if I tied you down and broke every bone in one of your legs...Like crushed that shit with a sledgehammer...You will heal eventually but you will never walk the same again, you are crippled. That is what slavery did to us. It cripled us as a people. We have come far but have so much further to go. But it seems as though some white people are yelling at us to straighten up and walk straight when they are the ones who crippled us in the first place... Gotdammit that shit just aint right.

I also hate when white people tend to act as if slavery was soooo soo long ago. That shit was not all that long ago. Most of us in our mid to late twenties Know or Knew someone who Knew someone who was bought and sold as a piece of property. Hell my great grandmother God rest her soul knew people who were enslaved in her lifetime. I am only 2-3 generations removed from it that is not that much time depending on how you look at it.

*Sigh* My blog friend is still in denial. I just feel the need to scream this real quick: BLACK CULTURE DOES NOT EQUAL RAP MUSIC! *Whew, that felt good, lol, now then...

You're right...Pat Buchanan brought it on "RealTime." Even Bill Maher admitted that he got a lot of applause from an otherwise "liberal" audience. The reason? He spoke the TRUTH. This country is being INVADED by illegals (NOT legals, ILLegals). Most Americans get this, too bad the politicians don't. *Sigh*

That said, it feels weird to be put in a position of agreeing with Pat Buchanan, then bringing up something like slavery and Black people...um...not exactly Buchanan's favorite subjects, lol. Anyway, I don't know if your intention was to link the two or not, but I just need to say I HATE (passionately) the meshing of Blacks and illegals so many try to do. It's just so wrong on so many levels...digress...

On rap or any music really, I think it's a shame so many don't understand how powerful a medium it is. It really is...but I'm too tired to dive back into that one...maybe another time. :)

Good Tuesday to you.

you know what, that's the damn truth! I may have to write about this too. It really irks me when people of European descent use cop outs, and insist that they didn't benefit. A friend of mine would always use a great analogy. He said that imagine you work for a company who years ago made a product that killed people, took away their economic power, and caused psychological damage. Yea, it happened years prior, before you work for said company, but in the present day, you reap the benefits of this company, you have economic empowerment from this company, and you have always been protected by this company. So, while you may not have been around back in the day, you are directly connected to their actions, just being WITH the company. Own that shit and stop trying to invalidate what it was!
